Haliburton Youth Justice Program

If you are concerned about a youth up to age 18 who is involved with the law, you may get help through Point in Time, the host agency for this service.

The youth may be referred to this program by the police, a lawyer, the Justice, a probation officer or other official of the Court.  Parents or the youth themselves may seek help directly.

The Coordinator can help you understand the legal process and explore possible alternatives.  S/he may become involved before charges are laid, after charges have been laid, as a condition of probation or as mandated by the Court.

The intent of the program is to help youth recognize the impact of their behaviour on other people as well as themselves, and to take an active part in repairing the harm that they have caused.  This may involve a restorative justice process and/or developing and carrying out a plan that holds the youth accountable in meaningful ways.
