SUPPORT OUR CONNECTIVITY CAMPAIGN
150 of our Haliburton County’s families simply can’t afford reliable internet.
Significant barriers to reliable internet connectivity exist for children, youth & families across our community.
Since March 2020, pandemic restrictions and school closures have exposed and amplified pre-existing internet access inequalities for many of Haliburton County’s children, youth and families.
The Connectivity Campaign helps us raise funds that will enable reliable and affordable internet and phone connectivity for families in Haliburton County whose current online access is inhibited by ongoing financial circumstances.
In 2021, we raised more than $105,00 from our $180,000 goal to provide youth and their families phones, dedicated data packages, phone cards to buy data and even gas cards so that youth they can just get to the library to study.
This year, we are again appealing to the community to contribute towards a new annual goal of $50,000 provide families receiving assistance continued support, as well as connectivity to families seeking assistance for the first time.
The future health and appeal of the Haliburton community is in no small part dependent upon every young resident being given an equal chance to achieve their full potential and to have the freedom to make choices. An investment in internet access for local youth and families is an investment in Haliburton County.
In 2016, a report from the United Nations General Assembly declared access to the internet to be a basic human right. More than ever, the internet represents social inclusion and an investment in our town’s youth. Internet inequality is an injustice.
